Leaders of striking polytechnic teachers say is it premature to call off their strike despite the moves to have their case against them withdrawn from court.The National Labour Commission sued the teachers after they ignored previous directives to call off their five-week old strike.Ahead of a judgment on the case today, Parliament’s Select committee on education initiated moves for an out of court settlement.It is not clear whether they succeeded, but General Secretary of POTAG, Anthony Ayarkwa told Joy News it appears the courts may have to decide.He said there was no formal communication between the teachers and the authorities for meeting to discuss the issues that necessitated the strike.Executives of various POTAG branches countrywide were in Accra last night for an emergency meeting ahead of the court judgment today.Mr. Ayarkwa said the decision was that the strike should continue.Source: Joy News/Ghana
