Deputy Health Minister, Victor Bampoe, has debunked rumours that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided by government is inferior and will not serve the purposes for which they will be utilised.
He said that due diligence was met before the PPEs were imported into the country, insisting that health officials ensured all requirements were met. Thus, it is wrong for people to say the PPEs lack the requsite quality.
Speaking on Peace FMs ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr Bampoe said all the PPEs supplied are fluid impervious. This, he said, will enable health officials conduct various checks and treat patients without having close contact with them, in the event of an outbreak of the deadly disease.
He said the needed preventive measures and preparations are on course across the country, especially at the ports and border towns, to help prevent a possible outbreak.
He mentioned that the Tema Ebola Treatment Centre had been completed and provided with the required equipment to assist health workers with their duties if any Ebola cases are recorded in Ghana.
With Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research being the only health facility in country which tests for the Ebola Virus, Mr Bampoe said it [Noguchi] is being provided with materials needed to facilitate their operations.
Port Officials, according to the deputy minister, have also been equipped and properly educated to deal with persons entering and leaving the country.
He indicated that a walk-through thermometer has been provided at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for early detection of Ebola cases.
He advised the public to desist from creating unnecessary panic and that government is doing all it can to ensure that the necessary precautionary measures are adopted to guarantee the safety of the citizenry.
Speaking about progress made so far in dealing with the current Cholera outbreak, which has claimed about 160 lives, the health minister said the epidemic has been brought under control and that hospitals are recording fewer cases than before.
He said education is still on-going to sensitise people on the need to live healthy lifestyles and keep their environments clean in order to restrain the spread of Cholera.
He assured that with all the efforts being made by the Ministry of Health, Cholera will within the next few weeks be totally eradicated.
