The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) has expressed shock at the passing away of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Upper East Regional Chairman after he “suffered a terror attack” by an unknown assailant on Wednesday evening.
The PPP said it sympathizes with the members of the NPP, extending its “deepest condolences” to the children, wife and family of the deceased.
“We urge for calm to remain while the police take steps to identify, apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators,” the party said in a statement signed by its National Secretary Kofi Asamoah Siaw.
The PPP said it will hold a press conference on the acid attack and other recent developments in the country Friday morning at the party’s head office.
Adams Mahama had acid poured on him by two assailants Wednesday and was confirmed dead Thursday morning at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
The motive for the murder of Adams Mohammed is yet to be ascertained but only last week, there was a violent confrontation in the Upper East Region which resulted in the scuttling of a planned meeting between the party’s national chair and general secretary, and other regional executives of the party.
Adams Mahama had indicated he was not aware of the planned meeting and wondered why the two national executives will organise a party meeting in his region, with his executives and would not inform him about it.
Only for him to meet his untimely death as a result, the police in the region suspect.
