Privileges Committee is set to present the first report on Kennedy Agyapong to Parliament, on Wednesday, February 13, regarding alleged derogatory comments he made about the Legislative body.
Mr Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, was hauled before the Privileges Committee over his comments believed to have offended Parliament and Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader.
Chairman of the Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, told the House on Tuesday that the first report on Mr Agyapong was ready but another matter had arisen that had also been referred to the Committee.
He said the Committee, therefore, decided to finish its work on the second matter before presenting the reports.
However, Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye, asked the Committee to present the report on the first case, which was filed by Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the Minority Chief Whip, to Parliament by Wednesday.
Mr. Agyapong was investigated by the Privileges Committee in 2018 after he reportedly described Parliament as “useless.”
The investigation was done following a motion filed by Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak.
Kennedy Agyapong subsequently described Muntaka Mubarak as dumb for referring him to Parliament’s Privileges Committee over the purported insult.
Although Agyapong apologised subsequently, earlier reports suggested that the committee had recommended his suspension from Parliament.
