The handing over of administrative documents is currently underway in Parliament ahead of the dissolution of the House later today.
The process is expected to be brief to pave way for the sixth Parliament of the 4th Republic which will quickly elect and swear in the new Speaker and the formal inauguration of the House. Reports say security around Parliament House is tight.
MP-elect for Akatsi South, Edward Doe Adjaho is taking over from Justice Joyce Bamford Addo. MP elect for newly created Nandom constituency, Benjamin Kumbuor who will be the next Majority Leader is confident of meeting the expectations of his party. He tells Joy News though he has been out of the House since 2004, he is counting on his experience to carry him through.
Also, Alfred Agbesi who is MP-elect for Ashaiman is scheduled to become the next deputy majority leader. There are reports that Foreign Minister and MP elect for Kumbungu, Alhaji Mohamed Mumuni has rejected his party’s offer to make him first Deputy Speaker but he insists he is yet to be informed about the offer.
Meanwhile city authorities have joined last minute preparations to beautify ceremonial roads and parts of the city before tomorrow's inauguration. AMA Mayor Alfred Vanderpuije personally joined an operation to pull down posters and some billboards.
The sides of pavements are also being whitewashed and national flags are flying high. Joy News caught up with Accra Mayor, who was optimistic all outstanding works will be completed by tomorrow.
