National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has described his running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as an incorruptible personality whose track record of achievements is critical in putting the country back on track.
“Prof. Naana Jane is a leader who possesses high moral values. She is incorruptible, and all through her service to Ghana has remained committed and patriotic. She comes with wisdom, tact, passion, integrity and decades of experience to the Vice-Presidential office,” Mr Mahama said.

Extolling her virtues before the Central Regional House of Chiefs last Tuesday, Mr Mahama said her track record of accomplishments made her the ideal partner for the journey to reset Ghana on the path of progress and development.
He said with a pragmatic approach devoid of propaganda, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang led an initiative that transformed Ghana’s educational system and provided opportunities for countless Ghanaian youth.
He cited the construction of over 2,000 school projects across the country, including classroom blocks, teachers’ accommodation facilities, and school desks and tables which led to the reduction in number of schools under trees, adding that she created a conducive environment for learning at the basic school. Mr Mahama also credited Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for introducing the progressively free education system in line with Ghana’s 1992 constitution.
He said Prof. Opoku-Agyemang ensured the automatic posting of teachers without the hurdles of licensure examination and eliminated the quota system at the Colleges of Education which led to a substantial increase in enrolment.

Work hard
For her part, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said she did not take the confidence reposed in her by Mr Mahama for granted. She promised to work hard to ensure victory for the NDC in the December 7 general election.
The President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Odeefo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, commended the NDC flag bearer for choosing an indigene of the region as his running mate.
He urged the NDC to help develop the region when Mr Mahama wins the December 7 general election.
Roads
Mr Mahama pledged to continue with the dualisation of the Kasoa – Winneba road to Cape Coast when elected president. He noted that the Central Region boasted of numerous tourist attractions and dualising the road was essential to making road travel easier.
He observed that travelling to the Central Region, which used to take one and a half to two hours, now took much longer due to traffic congestion. The two contract projects, estimated to cost nearly $180 million and being funded by the Government of Ghana, were expected to be completed in three years.
Mr Mahama said while the project was commendable, it lacked dedicated funding and, therefore, pledged to secure funding to help accelerate work on the dualisation project.
Lithium mining
On the Lithium mining project, he said, the opposition NDC was not against the mining operations but seeking to scrutinise it for the benefit of Ghanaians and the Central Region in particular.
