The National Democratic Congress Richard Quashiga has joined calls for the Electoral Commission to call an Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to discuss challenges confronting the organization of the two impending bye-elections. The Commission announced dates for the organization of bye elections in Wulensi and Kwabre West following the deaths of two Members of Parliament. But the NPP is threatening to boycott the bye elections if the old voters register is going to be used. MP for Manhyia who is the NPP chairman of electoral affairs, Mathew Opoku Prempeh told Joy News the old register has been outlawed. He said the EC must use the biometric registration exercise and a verification system in the elections, failure which the NPP will not be part of the elections. The CPP appeared to agree with the sentiments expressed by the NPP with its Communications Director Nii Armah Akomfra calling on the EC to call an IPAC meeting. On Tuesday, The Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, Richard Quashiga also joined the chorus for an IPAC meeting to be called. He told Joy News it will be necessary for an IPAC to be called in order to deliberate effectively and to find a consensus on how to organize the two bye elections. He conceded there are obvious challenges that need to be resolved before the two bye-elections are organized. According to him, he has discarded his old voters ID, suspecting quite a number of voters in the two constituencies where the bye-elections will be held have done same for which reason it would not be appropriate to use the old register for the elections. He said the EC must call the political parties to a meeting to discuss the merits and demerits of the issue being raised by the NPP. Richard Quashiga said the NDC is however yet to meet to take a firm decision on the matter.
