Government will from Monday, January 6, 2014 embark on a re-registration exercise for motor vehicles belonging to Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The exercise will also cover motor vehicles belonging to the Regional Coordinating Councils, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, according to a statement signed by Dzifa Attivor, Minister for Transport.
Thus, the number plates of all government vehicles will change from their current form to special registration plates designed by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) for ease of identification.
This follows the directive by President John Mahama in his State of the Nation's address last year to the effect that, proactive systems be implemented to monitor the movement and utilisation of all motorised vehicles belonging to Government.
It is to ensure a judicious application of Government expenditure specifically on the utilisation of government vehicles in Ghana as part of Government desire to prudently manage public resources.
Details of this new system will be made known to the public at a press conference to be addressed by Ms. Dzifa Attivor on Monday January 6, 2014 at 10AM at the Ministry of Information and Media Relations.
