An official of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Victoria Akegi Asamoah, has urged Ghanaians to report all suspected acts of corruption or hidden property to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and its partner agencies.
Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Wednesday, July 2, while discussing “Corruption Watch: Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL)”, she called on citizens to play an active role in the fight against corruption by volunteering information to authorities.
“The ordinary citizen is the reason why we are here today, and we want the citizens of Ghana to offer information because EOCO, FIC, OSP, we cannot do everything by ourselves,” she said.
“People have information so we are using this platform to plead with all Ghanaians, if you have information on any corrupt activity, on any property that somebody is hiding somewhere, offer that information to EOCO, FIC, OSP so that we can take the discussion, the investigation from there.”
She also stressed the need for the media to understand the legal frameworks guiding EOCO and its operations in order to help dispel misconceptions about politically motivated prosecutions.
“We also want the media to understand our laws, know what we do and be able to advocate for EOCO, FIC, the job that we do so they can also use that opportunity to inform the public of the legal processes,” she said.
“Because some people do not understand and the media has that platform, we always don’t come on this platform so the media has the platform to be able to inform the citizens of the right laws that the institutions are using for their prosecutions so that people don’t have mixed ideas that there is a political prosecution going somewhere.”
