The National Road Safety Commission has warned that at least, close to two thousand lives may be lost through road accidents if urgent steps are not taken to tackle the menace. Statistics indicate that about six hundred people lost their lives in the first quarter of this year. The United Nations (UN) has also declared 2011-2020 as the Decade of Action for Road Safety and is requiring of countries to reduce road deaths and injuries by 50 percent. The Director in Charge of Planning and Programmes at the Road Safety Commission, Madam May Obiri-Yeboah told Joy News that a concerted-approach was crucial for Ghana to achieve this target. She maintained that with the help and discipline of all stakeholders in the sector the target - though an ambitious one - could be achieved.
