Movie director and producer, Shirley Frimpong-Manso has described the sudden death of cinematographer Kwame Bob Johnson, popularly known as Bob J, who passed away Sunday as a great loss to the movie industry. Bob J is reported to have died on the spot in a motor accident on Sunday on his way to Aburi. He is widely known not only for his skills with the camera and movie production in general but he is known to be a lover of motor sports and a professional biker. Bob J has worked on several movies and with several directors including Shirley Frimpong-Manso who described him as a great gentleman in an interview with Myjoyonline.com Monday. She said she started working with him three years ago when she was working on her movie Scorned. They have since then worked on all her movies, Perfect Picture, A Sting in a Tale, Checkmate and 6 Hours to Christmas. Shirley said, “He is such a great guy and I'm so heartbroken… He is full of life, he brings so much colour and excitement to anywhere he is and he is a professional to the core. He has a strict business attitude.” “The industry has lost such an icon… I can never begin to describe it. He brings to his work so much experience because Bob has worked internationally also…” “Anybody you speak to in our industry… everybody says that, my God what a great loss. He was teaching a lot of people and he has taken with him so much knowledge and he had so many plans to open up a school and teach people. So many people relied on him. I am really broken, I am so sad,” she said mournfully. Bob J recently worked on Kwaw Ansah’s latest work, The Good Old Days – The Love of AA and was in talks to help produce the second sequel of that movie. He is reported to have been on the verge of starting a road safety campaign to create public awareness on safety on our roads. Story by Ernest Dela Aglanu/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
