Sinking Sands goes to Nigeria

The international blockbuster movie, Sinking Sands which stars Hollywood’s Jimmy Jean Louis of Phat Girlz and Heroes fame, Ghanaian Ama K Abebrese and Nigerian Yemi Blaq is set to hit Nigerian theaters starting March 25th 2011. Directed by the award winning Leila Djansi, the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNiFEM)-endorsed movie was featured on BBC Network Africa as the most expensive movie ever shot in the emerging film industry of Western Africa. The film was endorsed by UNiFEM for its message on violence against women. ‘Sinking Sands’ is a psychological drama about a couple, Jimah (Jimmy Jean-Louis) and Pabi (Ama K. Abebrese) in a romantic marriage which turns into one of violence and abuse when Jimah becomes disfigured in a domestic accident. It plays out the dilemma of a young, sweet and innocent wife struggling to survive abuse in the face of self-guilt and pity. The movie topped nominations for the maiden edition of the Ghana Movie Awards held in December 2010 where it won the award for Best Picture, Best Picture in West Africa, Best Production Design and Best Costume. Sinking Sands is expected to thrill movie lovers in Nigeria just as it did in Ghana and the BBC Network Africa some months ago. Source: Nigeriafilms.com
