The Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association of Ghana has extended congratulations to President-elect John Mahama on his resounding victory in the December 7, Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
In a statement signed by the President of the association, Michael Kwadwo Peprah, the association commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its mining team for presenting a comprehensive and forward-looking manifesto that prioritises the growth and sustainability of the artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
According to the association, after a careful analysis of the mining policies presented during the campaign, it became clear that the NDC's ideas align with the interests and needs of small-scale miners across the country.
“In light of our confidence in the NDC’s mining agenda, we mobilised our workers to fully support the party’s electoral success. Before the elections, we closed down our mining sites across various mining districts to allow our workers to vote and actively participate in safeguarding the democratic process, including serving as polling agents and ensuring vigilance at polling stations,” he said.
The association further described the NDC’s victory as a "beacon of hope" for the small-scale mining sector, expressing optimism that Mr Mahama’s leadership, alongside the NDC mining team, will deliver on their campaign promises.
"These promises include supporting responsible mining, addressing sector-specific challenges, and improving the livelihoods of small-scale miners and their communities", he noted.
The Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association also pledged its cooperation with the incoming government to ensure smooth and sustainable operations within the mining sector.
The association assured Mr Mahama of its willingness to work closely with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Minerals Commission, and other relevant regulatory bodies to foster responsible mining practices that contribute to Ghana’s economic growth.
“We trust that under the leadership of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, the small-scale mining sector will thrive, and the policies outlined in the NDC manifesto will be fully implemented to benefit miners and the nation as a whole,” the statement added.
The association concluded by reiterating its congratulations to the President-elect and the various NDC MPs, expressing confidence in a fruitful partnership that will advance the interests of the artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
