Some soccer fans and football enthusiasts in the Brong-Ahafo Region have accused President of Ghana Football Association (GFA) Mr Kwasi Nyantakyi of plotting to ensure that Bechem-based Chelsea Football Club qualified for the next premiership.
The fans and football enthusiasts who spoke to the GNA Sports in Sunyani alleged that Nyantakyi’s stance was part of the agreement reached between him and Nana Kwame Nketia, Chief Executive Officer of the Bechem club over the sale of Wa All Stars, a Premier division side to him (Nyantakyi) a couple of years ago.
They alleged that to honour the agreement, the FA President had been influencing referees to officiate in favour of Chelsea Football Club, which won its matches against Aduana F. C and Kintampo United to qualify to participate in the Middle League.
The fans said they had no doubts that the Club would enjoy similar support from the GFA boss to be able to qualify into the premiership next season.
“Soccer fans and supporters of Division One Clubs in the Region have therefore appealed to Nyantakyi to respond to the allegations asking him to remain neutral and not discrimination against any club to ensure that the deserving teams qualify for the premiership to help improve the standard of the nation’s soccer”, one of them said.
Nana Nketia however denied the allegation in an interview and described the accusations as false but that it was rather the better performance of Chelsea club that lifted them up high so far.
Meanwhile Chelsea currently lead the Zone One Middle League table with six points plus seven goals after two matches.
In their last match against Soccer Warriors at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, Chelsea spanked their opponents by seven goals to one, which feat the supporters of B/A United claim was a fixed one.
Before the allegations, the Division League Board (DLB) assured soccer fans of fair and transparent conduct of the competition in order “to prevent a repeat of what happened last season when Nania FC and Okwahu United were engaged in an alleged match fixing and were banned for a year and also fined GHC 5000 each’.
