Two security personnel have been picked up in connection with a shooting of a taxi driver at the Aflao border early Friday, which led to chaotic scenes as other taxi drivers demonstrated.The two security men, a soldier and an immigration officer allegedly shot the taxi driver when he refused to stop upon being ordered to do so.It is not clear who fired the shot, but the driver is said to be responding to treatment.The incident sparked pockets of violent incidents, with reports of vandalism and threats of reprisal attacks on other security personnel by the angry taxi drivers and residents in the area.The angry drivers were reported to have burnt tyres and mounted several roadblocks, causing heavy traffic in the area.A team of police and military personnel have since been deployed to restore law and order.Interior Minister Martin Amidu has appealed for calm. He said thorough investigations will be conducted into the matter.Public Relations officers for the Immigration and the Military institutions have been silent on the whereabouts of the two personnel.Francis Pamdeti of the Immigration Service in an interview with Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh, condemned the reprisal attacks on the security men, counseling that it will not serve any useful purpose.He said his outfit is also conducting its own investigations into the matter to ensure that such an incident does not recur.He dismissed allegations of extortion levelled against the immigration personnel at the border posts and advised travellers to report such cases.Colonel M'bawine Atintande, Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces said calm and normalcy have been restored, saying the incident was an isolated case and will not spill over.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
