The largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a fundraising and mobilisation drive to support their political campaigns and other activities towards the November elections.

Speaking on JOYNEWS programme Minority Caucus hosted by Deputy Director of Communications of the party, Perry Okudzeto, the national treasurer, Abankwaa Yeboah, explained the various platforms into details.  

On Wednesday, April 13, the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched the fundraising campaign in Accra where party sympathisers, well-wishers, and the public are given an opportunity to financially contribute directly.

The four platforms to contribute are; 

Cluster platform which gives an opportunity to business associate, friends or families to come together to gather their contributions over a period of time and submit it to the party. The party rewards them with a platinum or gold card. 

The Mobile App platform allows the contributor to download the I AM FOR NANA App from the Google Play Store or the App Store on iOS devices. People can pay with their Visa or any other debit cards.

Mobile airtime scratch cards have also been introduced across all networks. A contributor donates 50 percent of the face value of the card they buy. So if someone buys a ¢10 worth of voucher, the person receives an airtime of ¢5 while the other ¢5 goes to the party's coffers. 

Also, there is the SMS Platform runs on all the Mobile networks where contributors have to send a text to a designated number for their contribution to be deducted.

"We are doing this because we believe this time around the campaign is for the masses and we want everybody to be involved. We want every supporter to feel they are part of the success of the party that God is sending their way," Mr Yeboah said.

Lauding the newly introduced platforms as a novelty, Deputy Director of Communications, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, said this is to tell Ghanaians how forward thinking the NPP is and how they will think outside the box in solving the nation's problems. 

He said he is not worried others are saying the party is out there begging for support, arguing that, "It is better to go and beg from the people than to go and steal from the public purse to run our campaigns.“ 

Mr Karbo made the comparison to American presidential candidates who are raising billions of dollars from ordinary people despite their personal wealth. 

According to him, the party is moving away from the convention where a few money bags bring money to the center of the party. He is, therefore, urging party supporters, well-wishers, and the general public to that contributing,"a cedi a day can send the NDC away."
