Deputy Minister of Sports Dr. Omane Boamah has expressed his disappointment of the construction of the tartan tracks by Micheletti and Company Limited. The contractors were assigned to renovate the capital's only running tracks at the El Wak Sports Stadium five years ago but did a shoddy job.
The minister made this statement when he addressed the media on Wednesday as part of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC )for the ECOWAS game's responsibility to inspect the three stadia in the capital city Accra, the Accra Sports Stadium, El Walk and Legon Sports Complex) which will host the 2ND edition of the ECOWAS Games in Accra from June 2-8, 2012.
The tartan tracks was relocated from Accra Sports Stadium to the El Wak sports stadium to enable the national stadium meet the 40,000 seating capacity required by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) for the hosting of the 26TH edition of African Cup of Nations competitions in 2008 which was hosted by Ghana.
But according to him the tartan tracks has turn into potholes and some people will have a lot of hard questions to answer at the appropriate time because he believes those people did not do their work well.
He added that the tartan tracks which looks like pot holes in just five years means the contractors did not consider the nation Ghana first before they put it up.
He continued to say the LOC will make sure that tartan tracks are ready for the ECOWAS Games before the middle of May.
He assures Ghanaians that the LOC will work tirelessly to see that the hosting of ECOWAS games is successful.
The first edition of the games was held in Nigeria.
