State prosecutors in the Ya-Na murder trial Wednesday raised doubts about the genuineness of a document the defence team has been relying on. Though Director of Prosecutions, Gertrude Aikins, admits the document is a true certified copy of proceedings of the Wuaku Commission which inquired into the murder, she questions its authenticity because it is not signed. The defence could therefore not continue cross-examination. Joy News’ court correspondent Cyrus de-Graft-Johnson who monitored proceedings reported that Ms Aikins’ objection that the document was not signed was overruled by Justice E. K. Ayebi. He, however, asked the defence to tender copies of the Wuaku Commission proceedings. He granted a request to adjourn hearing to Friday to enable the defence make copies available to the court and also for Ms Aikins who said she had never seen the document. Before hearing could commence, however, the state drew the attention of the court to reports of attacks on some women suspected to be Abudus by some unknown persons in parts of the central business district of Accra. The Judge asked the police to take the matter serious and urged leaders to the factions to caution their followers to desist from any unlawful acts. Hearing, according to our reporter, was nearly stalled when prosecution sprung a surprise by presenting the 6th instead of the third witness. This is the witness who implicated 11 of the accused persons in acts that directly led to the death of the Dagbon Overlord, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II. Fifteen persons are standing trial for murder and conspiracy to commit murder. One of them is on the run. The first accused person is on bail for medical reasons and the other 13 have been remanded into police custody. Story by Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
