A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress and Member of Parliament for Adenta, Kojo Adu Asare, is asking government to abrogate the controversial STX Housing deal to avoid further embarrassment ahead of the 2012 General Elections.
His comments follow the boardroom wrangling between Ghanaians and their Korean partners over the ownership of the project casting a dark cloud over the $1.5 billion project to build 30,000 housing units.
Chairman of the Works and Housing Committee of Parliament, David Tetteh-Assumeng told Joy News on Monday that a meeting has been scheduled on Tuesday between the parties and the sector minister Alban Bagbin to find a lasting solution to the problem.
He called on the parties to exercise restraint as they seek a lasting solution to the problem.
But Mr. Adu Asare believes enough is enough. He said six months after the president cut sod for the commencement of the project at the Police Training School at Tesanor, nothing has been done to bring it into fruition.
He said the situation “is enough embarrassment to the President and to all of us as a party.”
Mr. Adu Asare posits that the situation looks gloomy as the project is doomed to fail since nothing has been done to give any indication that the project will be success.
