Supreme Court judge, Justice Joseph Akamba, says media houses to get a lawyer and seek legal advice on the stories they publish.
According to the Judge, getting a lawyer’s guidance on stories would prevent journalists from getting into trouble and also improve the quality of journalism in Ghana.
He was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for a new 18-member board for the National Media Commission (NMC).
The new board members of the Commission are drawn from various institutions across in the country including the Office of the President represented by Kwesi Pratt and Kwarteng Arthur.
New NMC Chair, Kwasi Gyan Apenteng, said getting the Broadcasting Bill passed into law and ensuring that journalists respect the ethics of the profession will be top on the agenda of the new board.
Outgoing Chairman of the NMC, Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere, charged new members of the Commission to avoid engaging in active partisan politics before, during and after the 2016 elections.
The advised them to put Ghana’s interest first to avoid political tensions during their tenure.
The 18-member board would steer the affairs of the NMC for three years.
