Ibrahim Adams, on trial in a Ho Circuit Court for possessing fake currency, on Monday appealed to the court to order the Ho Prison authorities to comply with his doctor’s prescription to feed him every four hours.
He pleaded not guilty to possessing fake currency notes and would be brought back to court on February 19.
Adams, a self styled businessman, told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that his doctor said his malaria drugs were very strong and would demand that he ate every four hours.
He said he was fed only once a day which was not good for his health and asked that provision be made to cater for his situation.
Mr Owusu-Afriyie told Adams that he could not give such an order because there was no fund for such circumstances and urged Adams to negotiate his situation with the investigator handling his case.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Okudzeto told the Court that on May 2, 2008, Customs Excise and Preventive Service officials at the Sogakope checkpoint stopped Adams who was driving a BMW saloon car with a Nigerian registration number.
He said the officials detected something unusual in the car and upon interrogation, Adams conceded having concealed some foreign currency notes in the driver’s side of the front door.
Chief Inspector Okudzeto said Adams then used a screw driver to remove a brown envelop containing 30 bundles of counterfeit dollars amounting to 2,660 dollars.
He said Adams claimed that the counterfeit notes were given to him by someone to be brought to Ghana for collection later.
Chief Inspector Okudzeto said Adams’ trial delayed for nine months because the exhibits had to be sent to the United States for authentication.
