Nigerian artist, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, secured her first Grammy Award at the 65th ceremony held on Sunday in Los Angeles.
She won the award for her contributions to Future’s hit single ‘Wait For U’.
The song had been nominated under the category of ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’.
Future, Drake and Tems beat stiff competition from SZA, Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar and Latto to win the award.
Tems is the first Nigerian female artiste to bag a Grammy Award.
The Afrobeats singer has added this to her list of accomplishments following her Africa Future awards win and her Oscar nomination.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy who was nominated for the Best Global Album category with his album ' Love Damini' lost.
Japan’s Masa Takumi beat the 'African Giant' to win the Best Global Album category and South African’s Zake Bantwini, Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode to win the Best Global Music Performance category.
