In the coming weeks 12 lucky Ghanaian university graduates would have a chance of a lifetime to test their academic prowess before the whole world on a TV reality show and win scholarships to study in the UK.
The final 12 will be selected from thousands of applications from all over the country.
The show dubbed ‘The Challenge’ is an Education UK Reality Game Show ‘ in which the contestants would compete for a grand prize of a full board postgraduate scholarship from the University of Westminster valued at £40,000, fully paid accommodation in an international students’ hostel, a monthly living allowance, a return air ticket to the UK valid for one year and a brand new laptop computer.
On completion of the graduate studies, the winner will return to Ghana to pick a pre-arranged job and a brand new car.
All candidates will be expected to demonstrate academic excellence, leadership competencies, as well as character and creativity.
The 12 who make it into the finals will receive extensive personal and professional development training and compete against each other in a series of weekly tests, tasks and quizzes in management, leadership, creativity and UK-Ghana trivia.
The contestants will be adjudged by a 3-member Scholarship Committee; named “THE BOARD” to be made up of a renowned academic, a psychologist or HR expert and a business leader. Depending on performance against set criteria, one contestant would be ‘fired’ by the general public through SMS voting every week. Eight (8) out of the 12 contestants will be fired (evicted) over an eight-week period.
The four remaining contestants will go head-to-head in a grand finale competition to determine qualification for the grand prize.
The two runner ups will receive one-year postgraduate scholarships and accommodation from London Metropolitan and Thames Valley Universities. In addition, they will receive return air-tickets and living allowance.
‘The Challenge’ will run for 12 weeks and will afford the general public the opportunity to participate as studio audience members and also via weekly SMS prize draws and eviction voting.
The Challenge is organised by The British Council and TIGO, in association with Westminster University London. It is supported by Zenith Bank, Virgin Nigeria, BusinessGhana.com, London Metropolitan University and Thames Valley University, your Super Hits Radio, Joy 99.7FM, and produced by CharterHouse.
