The Ashanti Regional Police Command has secured convictions and sentences for three Nigerians engaged in vehicle thefts within the Kumasi metropolis.
A statement from the Ghana Police Service on Sunday said the three were arrested on June 20, 2025, for engaging in criminal activities targeting parked vehicles within the Metropolis.
On July 22, the convicts; Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze were arraigned at the Atasemanso Circuit Court.
During proceedings, the statement said Russell Ekenze pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour.
The other two accused persons, Francis Friday and Linus Agwazie, pleaded not guilty.
Subsequently, on July 23, 2025, the cases of Friday and Agwazie were heard at Circuit Court 3 in Kumasi where both were found guilty on two counts and sentenced to eight years on each count, which are to run concurrently.
On July 24, Ekenze was further convicted at Circuit Court 2 and sentenced to 10-years with hard labour.
All three convicts are currently serving their sentences at the Kumasi Central Prison.
“This successful prosecution underscores the Ashanti Regional Police Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and working with the judiciary to ensure that criminal elements, particularly those involved in organised and transnational crime, face the full rigours of the law,” the statement said.
The police, therefore, urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities and providing timely information to aid in crime prevention and public safety.
