The Tema Municipal Assembly has given haulage drivers in the Municipality a two-week ultimatum to stop parking along the harbour roads and patronize the parking lot provided by a Private Company.
Failure to abide by the order would attract an on the spot fine of ¢550,000 when the vehicle is clamped or ¢1.2 million when towed to the office.
At a meeting with the drivers on Saturday, the Co-coordinating Director of the Assembly, Mr Kwaku Akpotosu expressed concern about the way some of the drivers park along the main harbour road which he said causes nuisance to vehicular traffic.
He entreated them to make use of the parking lot provided by Port Handling Company, which has now reduced its fee from ¢24,000 per day to ¢15,000.
The Manager of the Company, Mr Yidana Elijah assured the drivers of a 24-hour security and enough parking spaces, which were the concerns of the drivers at the meeting.
