The real effect of the banking crises is beginning to manifest as Companies that until recently were providing various services to some of these banks are beginning to downsize in order to stay in business.
Some staff of top core logistic services, a subsidiary of the now-defunct UNIBANK are demanding the payment of their August salaries in addition to their severance packages.
That is not all some workers of Consolidated Bank Ghana, GN media, TV Africa, energy firm BX Company among others are all laying off some workers while salaries remain unpaid for days, weeks and months.
The workers of top core logistic services numbering about 40, most of whom are dispatch riders, allege they are being threatened by the management of the company to return their motor mikes or be arrested.
In an interview with Joy News’ Ernest Manu some of the aggrieved workers lamented the situation they are in.
“We have not received our salaries and we have been threatened by our management. It is unfortunate there not been any effective communication apart from this morning where we had a call that we should come for a meeting,” one of them said.
“We don’t know what the problem is. All we want from them is our salaries and till now they haven’t said anything,” another said.
Meanwhile, on August 28, the receiver of UNIBANK announced its decision to terminate its contract with the parent company, prompting a circular issued on August 31 to the staff.
The Circular in part said: “Management of Topp Core Security Ghana Limited wishes to inform all staff member as a matter of urgency regarding the official communication from the receiver of uniBank Ghana Limited effective 28th August 2018 as per section 131 (1) of the banks and specialized Deposit-taking Institutions Act 2016 (Act 930).
