A Circuit Court in Accra, on Tuesday remanded into prison custody Bernard Asare, a trader, for allegedly stealing a car and mobile phones worth GH¢7,700.
Asare, who pleaded guilty to four counts of conspiracy, unlawful entry, stealing and unlawfully destroying a metal gate, would re-appear on Tuesday, July 5.
Police Chief Inspector Peter Benne told the court, presided over by Mrs Olivia Owusu Obeng that Asare stays at Odorkor Official Town, a suburb of Accra, whilst the complainant Hadja Abuba, a Customer Service Executive of Millicom Ghana Limited, also resides at Okpoi Gonno on the Spintex road in Accra.
He said on February 2, this year, at about 0400 hours, the accused and Nana Yaw an accomplice now at large, broke into the complainant’s house and stole her unregistered Hyundai Accent car with a DVLA plate valued at GH¢7,000.
The prosecution said the complainant was awakened by noise from a car engine and when she peeped through the window he (complainant) saw the vehicle being driven away.
Chief Inspector Benne said the complainant realised that her two mobile phones worth GH¢600 and GH¢100 had been taken away.
The prosecution said the accused after stealing the car and mobile phones, gave GH¢500 to Nana Yaw and run off.
Chief Inspector Benne said the accused also went to a shop and took delivery of three flat screen television sets and bolted without paying for them.
The prosecution said the matter was reported to the police and the accused was spotted at Ashanti Home Touch, Lapaz, Accra, driving the vehicle.
Chief Insp. Benne said when the accused saw the Police, he drove recklessly in an attempt to avoid being arrested and caused damage to the vehicle as well as other vehicles.
He said the accused managed to escape but he was later arrested on June 21 and during interrogation he admitted the offense.
