The infamous former Minister of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has conceded an error in judgement when he traveled with a lady at the expense of the state.
He however insists the act was not criminal, and challenged all those who have never made errors in judgement to be the first to cast the stone.
Alhaji Muntaka was speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Wednesday.
He told host of the show, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah that contrary to suggestions he travelled with the lady for fun, both the Germany and Ivory Coast trips were planned to the minute that he could not have had time for fun.
The Asawase Member of Parliament said if people had taken an objective look at the report of the national security committee that investigated the veracity of the 17 charges of financial impropriety leveled against him, they would realize he was honourably exonerated. “If people had looked at the truth, nobody in his right sense of mind would say I was covered up,” he stated.
Following allegations of outrageous financial claims by the then Sports Minister, the president commissioned investigations into the issues. The committee investigating the allegations cleared the minister but cited him for indiscretion. Many a Ghanaian saw the report as a cover-up, but Alhaji Muntaka says they were wrong.
The infamous former sports minister would not comment on reports that he had been complaining that his party hounded him out, saying he did not want to wash his dirty linen outside.
He rejected suggestions that he may be contesting his seat as an independent parliamentary candidate in 2012 “because regardless of the cannibalism in the party, we must build it and hold onto it, that is our party, the NDC party.”
