Some parliamentary aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ablekuma Central constituency have slammed the December 8th congress that elected the constituency's parliamentary candidate.
According to them, the election was marred by unacceptable behaviour from some regional and national officers of the party, and that if the election was not declared null and void, they would not hesitate to select another candidate to run as an independent in the constituency.
These were contained in a statement issued in Accra and signed by Messrs Sam Atukwei Quaye; Hon. Gambo Wangabi, Godlove Quartey and Hon. Jane A. Oku, with copies to the founder of the party Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings; the flagbearer, Prof, John Evans Atta Mills and the regional and constituency executives.
In their statement, they rejected the elected candidate and called for a more marketable independent candidate that can unseat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament.
They alleged that the national executives convinced delegates to vote for a particular aspirant. They said they felt disappointed, cheated and aggrieved due to the unfair treatment meted out to them.
"As it stands, we will be unable to associate ourselves with this victory because it was not freely and fairly won, due to the enrolment of some external officers of the party before and during the election.
"Our hope is that the issue will be immediately and properly looked into and all anomalies addressed before it is too late," they noted.
