A group calling itself Concerned Asante Youth is urging delegates of the NPP presidential primary to vote for an individual with the interest of the Ashanti Region at heart.
According to them, such a candidate should have a clear plan to develop the region, which has shown massive support for the NPP over the years.
The President of the group, Ebenezer Nyamekye, indicated that a native of the region is the best fit for the criteria set by the group.
“We know what Ashanti does for the NPP and the need for the region to be prioritized. An individual from the region will be keen on developing the Region,” he said.
He added, “Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyapong are from the region, let’s look at their competence and vote for the better candidate to restore the NPP in the Region.”
The NPP’s electoral fortunes in the Ashanti Region diminished from 1.8 million votes in 2020 to 1.3 million in 2024, as the party lost the general election.
To many, this was a major factor in the NPP's massive defeat.
The group, therefore, wants its suggestion considered to help ensure the party returns to power.
The Ashanti Region has become especially relevant in the upcoming NPP presidential primary, as it contains a significant portion of the country's constituencies.
For this reason, aspirants continue to visit the region to canvass for votes.
Presently, the NPP's 2024 Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is in the region wrapping up his campaign ahead of the election.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong has already visited most constituencies, receiving assurances of victory.
In December 2025, Ken Agyapong spent days in the region engaging with delegates for the upcoming election.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has focused his campaign in the region, while Kwabena Agyapong continues to traverse it.
