Two employees of a company located at Baatsonaa in Accra, who stole GH¢55,000, have been sentenced to three years imprisonment each.
Appearing before an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday, Hassana Mohammed, a cashier, and Joshua Nyama, private security guard, pleaded guilty to their respective charges.
Hassana was charged with stealing, while Nyama was held for abetment of crime.
The court, presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Kwadam, had earlier convicted Nyama on his plea and sentenced him to three years imprisonment.
It, however, deferred Hasana’s sentence to today. This was to enable her to undergo a pregnancy test.
The test, which was produced in court on Tuesday, tested negative.
It, therefore, went ahead to sentence her on receipt of the pregnancy test.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, told the court that the complainant was the owner of Aseda Wholesale and Retails shop at Baatsonaa.
According to the prosecution, the accused persons worked at the complainant’s shop as cashier and security guard.
On January 27, 2025, the complainant gathered information that Hasana had been stealing from her shop.
Prosecution said the complainant began to monitor her and realised that she had stolen cash in the sum of GH¢55,000.
When the complainant questioned Hasana, she admitted having stolen some monies based on the advice of Nyama.
The prosecution said Nyama advised Hasana to be deleting entries of sales from her software and make false statement to customers that due to network failure adding receipts of items bought could not be issued.
Hasana stole the amounts within two weeks from the complainant, based on the advice of Nyama, and used GH¢17,100 to rent a single room apartment at Nungua, which she was yet to occupy.
Additionally, Hasana bought other items with the money, which included two Samsung mobile phones, valued GH¢2,750, groceries, and personal effects.
During investigations, the two Samsung mobile phones, groceries, the wardrobe and cash of GH¢2,000 were retrieved from Hasana.
Prosecution said it was also established that Nyama was caught on tape advising and encouraging Hasana to commit the crime.
The GNA gathered that Hasana refunded GH¢5,000 out of the stolen amount.
