Tension is brewing at Krofofrom and its surrounding communities in the Bosomtwi District of Ashanti Region, following the killing of two young men during the weekend by some inhabitants said to have formed gangs that 'discipline' innocent people in the area.
One of the young men, Kofi Asiamah was butchered to death on Friday, whilst the other, Emmanuel Akugoru; a native of Bawku was killed on Saturday evening.
The two allegedly killed at Krofofrom, were said to belong to rival gangs in the area.
Asiamah was said to have been killed by a gang being led by one Clement Agya, also known as Dealer, from Ampabame Number One in the district which allegedly prompted retaliation from the camp of Asiamah.
Akugoru was allegedly picked in a Taxi at Aboabo, near Ampabame Number One by his assailants at about 11:30p.m. while waiting for a car to travel to some place.
The Assemblyman for Krofofrom, Addai Dwomoh Bismark, confirmed the incident, but could not say what the causes of the murders were.
Prompted, however, he said barely three weeks ago some inhabitants from one of the communities, Apramang, reported to him that there had been some robberies in the town and suspected Asiamah and his group.
He said he went to Asiamah’s mother’s house in the company of the unit committee chairman, Osei Kwabena, to discuss the issue with her.
According to the assemblyman, Asiamah’s mother; Mary Ama, was said to have prevailed on her son to come out with the truth, but her son denied any knowledge of the robberies.
A few days later, Asiamah and some friends were said to have engaged Clement’s group in a brawl having accused them of the robberies which he and his friends had been associated with.
In the process, Clement was alleged to have been wounded and consequently admitted to a hospital for some time.
On recovery and discharge from the hospital, he allegedly swore to revenge and on some occasions armed himself with a cutlass and visited Asiamah’s mother’s house to inform her that he would kill her son.
The assemblyman stated that a day to Asiamah’s murder, Asiamah told him that Clement had threatened to shoot him upon which he (the assemblyman) asked him (Asiamah) to report the case to the Police.
At about 10:00.a.m. last Friday, Asiamah was butchered in the full glare of some inhabitants close to the Pentecost Church at Krofofrom. His right hand was almost severed. He died on the way to the hospital.
Mr. Addai said at about 11:30.p.m. on Saturday, he had a call that some people were fighting between Krofofrom and Ampabame, but when he got closer to the scene, he realised it was very serious and so he called the Police, but at the time the Police arrived Emmanuel had been killed and the suspects “vanished into thin air.”
Quoting a sister of Akugoru who resided at Aboabo, Mr. Addai said he (Akugoru) told his sisters that he was travelling, but did not say where he was going, adding that his sisters saw him off to the station and while waiting for a car, a taxi pulled up and some people got down, slapped one of his sisters and pulled her into the car and drove away.
The assemblyman expressed fears that there could be continuous revenge among the rival groups dotted all over the communities and urgently appealed to the police and other security agencies to monitor the communities to avoid a possible bloodbath.
