Two of Ghana’s most vociferous politicians from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have called for a shift from politics of convenience to politics of issues and national interest.
The NDC’s Fiifi Kwettey and NPP’s Kwaku Kwarteng have both agreed that there is the need for a movement to a center of convergent where issues can be discussed without politics.
According to the MP for Ketu South, Fiifi Kwetey, “It is time for us to really start pushing towards a certain center, a centre where we can converge, a center where we can literally re-think issues and keep those issues strictly outside of partisan debate.”
He suggested that politicians should have the courage to “say enough is enough” to things that cause “Ghana to hemorrhage, things that cause this nation to bleed.”
On his part, the NPP MP for Obuasi South, Kwaku Kwarteng, said although Ghana is a multi-party state, the system does not mean politicisation of national issues all the time.
“My job as an opposition person is to be critical of government and to propose alternatives, that is not politicisation.”
He advised that attributing wrong happenings in present governments to former administrations saying, “that kind of discussion is unhealthy and I can promise that I will never get into that kind of discussion anymore.”
They were speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show this morning.
