The United Nations Information Centre, Accra, will undertake a clean-up exercise at Nima tomorrow, July 18, 2017, to mark the Nelson Mandela International Day.
The Day was declared by the UN General Assembly in recognition of the contributions of Nelson Mandela to the culture of peace and freedom.
Mandela said, "It is in your hands to make the world a better one for all". The global community is encouraged to spend 67 minutes of their time to serve or help others on this Day.
The clean-up exercise which begins at 6 am, is in partnership with the Ministry of Inner Cities and Zongo Development and the South African High Commission in Accra. It will be followed by a community durbar at the Nima Cluster of Schools (Nima 2 Basic School, around the Nima Police Station) at 9 am.

Nelson Mandela Day
Every year, on Mandela Day, people around the world are asked by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to do just that.
By devoting 67 minutes of their time – one minute for every year of Mr. Mandela’s public service – people can make a small gesture of solidarity with humanity and a step towards a global movement for good.
UN staff around the world have made a difference through a variety of activities in the past – from rebuilding homes destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, to offering school supplies to children, preparing meals for the elderly, helping out in orphanages, cleaning up parks and delivering computer literacy workshops.
