The United Nations Youth Association of Ghana has expressed grave concern over the current security issues cropping up in Ghana and has advised the security agencies, to take urgent measures and ward off the fears that have engulfed the country as political parties switch into full gear, ahead of the general elections. According to the group, the security whirlwind blowing across the country causes a stir and poses a threat to Ghana’s democracy. This was contained in a release issued by the United Nation Youth Association-Ghana and signed by the national president Mr. Prince Kweku Entsie. The statement further expressed worry over the periodic highway robberies and other social vices that are gradually branding Ghana as a safe refuge for intolerable people. ‘We the members of United Nations Youth Association-Ghana (UNYA-GH) are much worried because the current security concerns have ethnic and religious underpinnings as such it must be nibbled in the bud’ the statement noted. The UNYAGH has also urged traditional leaders to play their part in tackling little misunderstandings that have the potential to escalate into ethnic and religious conflicts. According the group, the current state of security is drawing a wedge into Ghana’s brand of a peaceful and wonderful business destination. It noted that “as Peace makers, Peace builders, and Peacekeepers –UNYA-GH, cannot afford to see our unique strength being washed away by anybody from the country”. “The United Nations (UN) recognizes Ghana as one of the peaceful African states on the globe. And just recently, Ghana has been declared winner of Africa Peace Prize by the African Centre for the constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) in South Africa so there is the need to keep the peace and protect it, the group emphasised. The group has therefore called on Ghanaians to help deal with the current insecurity in the country by giving authentic and genuine information to the security agencies for further investigations.
