The leadership of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) in the Upper East Region, has accused President John Mahama of ignoring the region on his “Accounting to the People Tour”.

This according to them is to avoid embarrassment for the underdevelopment and neglect of the region under his government.

According to the NPP, the 3-day “Accounting to the people tour” scheduled for the 6th to the 8th of June, was later postponed to an unknown date because there was nothing for the President Mahama to the commission.

Speaking at a press conference in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional chairman of the NPP, Mohammed Ibrahim Mutala, said the NDC has 13 members of Parliament in the region but their constituencies have been neglected and starved of needed development.

This, he noted, with unfulfilled promises, has plunged the people in the region into severe poverty.

Mr. Mutala stated that NDC government’s inability to fulfill its promises deterred president Mahama from accounting to the people in the region.

Mr. Mutala called on Ghanaians to vote for change in the November polls to save them from these supposed hardships.

Reacting to the allegation, the Upper East Regional Deputy secretary of National Democratic Congress, Thomas Abiola, in an interview with Radio Ghana, debunked the allegations.

He explained that the government has initiated a number of projects in the region hence it is not true that the region is being starved of the needed development.

He said the Winkogo-Tongo, Madina-Bongo, and Tono roads have been tarred and could have been commissioned by president Mahama.

He said completion of water expansion project in Bawku works on Fumisi valley, the ware house in Navrongo for farmers among other projects could have also been commissioned.

Mr. Abiola noted that the president could have inspected works on the Bolga-Bawku road, Bolgatanga regional hospital expansion works, ongoing water projects in Navrongo, expansion works at some senior high schools among others.
