Upper West Regional Minister Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, who was shot in a robber attack last Friday, said he is still left with one bullet in his body, and he might live with that for the rest of his life. He said doctors had removed all but one of the pellets from his body. Mr Sulemani told Joy News’ Manasseh Azure Awuni in an exclusive interview at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital that he was now doing "much, much better". Mr. Amidu came under attack whilst on his way to Fielemuo to thank the people for electing him as the Member of Parliament for Sissala West in the 2012 elections. He said he underwent operation yesterday to remove a bullet from his body, but one could not be removed. However, Alhaji Sulemani said he would probably have to live with the bullet for the rest of his life. “According to them (doctors) they removed one of the (bullets) and the second one is still there, but they believe that I should have no fear; that, it’s normal for people to have bullets in their bodies. “They are not doing any more operation, it is believe either it will be there or it will find its way out with time...it is an AK4 bullet.” Recounting the robbery incident, the Minister told Manasseh they were attacked when they got to a curve, with a car belonging to the DCE for the area following his own and a Pick Up vehicle ahead. “So as soon as we got there, I noticed that the road was blocked ahead of us. The Pick Up passed but as soon as my vehicle got to a position, they opened fire on us.” He said he asked those in his car to “lie down” and the bodyguard “managed to get out and started returning fire...in fact I just gave up when I finally found out I was hit from behind”. The robbers dashed into the bushes when they realised luck was eluding them, he noted. Alhaji Sulemani said he, together with those who were accosted by the robbers, “had their freedom” and all returned to Golu where he received first aid. The Minister was later admitted at Wa Regional Hospital before being flown to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
