Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Ephraim Avea Nsoh, has warned persons nominated for the position of Municipal, District Chief Executive (MMDCE) in the region to desist from bribing Assembly Members to enable them to be confirmed for the position.
Addressing a news conference in Wa on Friday August 30, Dr. Nsoh observed the practice gives the region a bad name.
"Under no circumstance should any of the appointees try to induce [Assembly Members or somebody on their behalf] monetarily...in order to vote for them", he stressed.
He indicated he will not hesitate to denounce any nominee who is caught in the act because such a person is not fit to occupy the position the President nominated him to.
The minister also warned Assembly Members in the region against accepting money from the nominees.
In his view, MMDCE nominees who pay bribes become ineffective because "they have no guts to work for [the progress]" of the metropolitan, municipal or districts they have appointed to serve.
"It doesn't pay for an assembly just to try and quarrel and not appoint the [nominees]", noting the work that goes into the nomination of an MMDCE must not be mired by parochial interests.
