Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has lauded the chiefs and people of Bolgatanga for keeping the peace of the area.
Despite the difference and misunderstanding surrounding the selection of the next Bolga Naba, he says the people have remained peaceful and gone about their activities with no challenges.
“We know the selection of Bolga Naba is going through the judicial system but despite the little difference people are peace and we hope this will continue,” he said.
The Vice President made these remarks when he addressed paid a courtesy call on the Bolgatanga Traditional Council on as part of his campaign tour of the Upper East Region.
The death of the Bolga Naba, Martin Abilba III on September 2013 sparked a chieftaincy dispute in which two persons were enskinned at separate ceremonies.
The two are a lawyer, Raymond Alafia Abilba, 50, who was enskinned with the stool name Naba Awogeya-Lebna Abilba IV and a sales executive Joseph Apakre of the Ghana Cement Company (GHACEM) Limited who was given the stoll name Naba Abeka Noge Buuri Maltinga.
Tension between followers of the two factions grew resulting in a clash in April that led to the death of one person while eight others sustained varying degrees of gunshots and machetes wounds.
It took an intervention from the Judicial Committee of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs for peace to be restored in the area till such a time when the legitimate ruler is determined.
