Telecommunications Network Vodafone has announced that they have taken over the Ghana Music Awards.
After nearly a decade of sponsorship by MTN as title sponsors for arguably the biggest entertainment event in Ghana, Vodafone has now come on board as the title sponsors.
The Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Uche Ofodile speaking at the press soiree to announce the event noted that “we believe we have a lot to contribute to the music and entertainment industry in Ghana. We are excited by the new ideas and concepts Charter House have in mind for the Ghana Music Awards - it's a massive event in the calendar of the music industry and we are pleased to be able to support it.” Mr Ofodile assured the press that next year’s event will be even more vibrant with a transparent and fair judging process.
Sources close to Vodafone indicate that the network giant has a very juicy package for the Ghana Music Awards.
On her part, the Executive Director of Charterhouse Theresa Ayoade said the entire event will be overhauled to ensure a very improved awards scheme.
She expressed the appreciation to the various stakeholders for the support they have offered Charterhouse in the running of the event.
Meanwhile when Hitz FM contacted Charter House following speculations that there was bad blood between MTN and Charterhouse, the PRO for the outfit, Juno Abena Turkson denied this.
She said it has nothing to do with any bad blood but it’s strictly business.
Ms Turkson indicated that MTN’s support of the art cannot be understated so although Vodafone is the new title sponsor for the GMA, it is not an indictment on MTN as sponsors of the music industry and arts in general.
She disclosed that the contract for the GMA’s with MTN ended last year and they had to renew it for this year but Vodafone offered a more attractive package and that is why they went for it.
Ghana Music Awards celebrates musicians in Ghana who have chalked successes in the year under review.
Some musicians Hitz FM spoke to expressed the hope that with the new sponsorship, they will better off.
Meanwhile Vodafone is currently preparing for the 020 live concert slated for 20th September at the Dome of the Conference Centre. The show will be headlined by international R&B singer Trey Songs.
