A group within the ruling National Democratic Congress in the Volta Region is incensed with the level of depravity, neglect and under development in the region.
The leader for the Youth for Action Group, Alhaji Bello told Joy News’ Bernard Saibu the region has been so neglected he wonders if Volta Region is part of Ghana.
According to him, the famous culture of sod cutting and commissioning of projects which have become synonymous with the President John Mills administration –throughout his regional tours- is yet to be seen in Volta Region largely because there are no projects to commission.
The few sods which were cut in the region in respect of a University and the Eastern corridor road project are yet to see the light of day, he stressed.
He claimed the citizens have become so disillusioned and have sworn not to vote in the 2012 general elections.
Alhaji Bello’s anger and frustrations are directed not at President John Mills but his representatives- Regional Minister, Joseph Amenorwode and the Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Isaac Kotobisa who he claims are incompetent and must be sacked.
“As for Mills, he has done his best by making the appointments” but the appointees are not “lobbying enough", he said, adding the Minister and the MCE have disappointed the president.
He said the two have made the president so unpopular in the region and must be shown an orderly queue at the exit.
Alhaji Bello is particularly concerned about what he says is a palpable prospect of seeing the NDC in opposition, saying, he has toiled so much for the NDC to come to power and would not want to see the NDC in opposition too soon.
The comments by the youth group follow a similar call by some chiefs in the region who are also crying for attention and for development projects in the region.
