The Ghana Police Service, through the National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit, has arrested a suspect at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region for possession of suspected counterfeit foreign currency and an unauthorised firearm.
The suspect, identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was picked up following intelligence indicating that a self-styled fetish priest in the area was allegedly engaged in criminal activities and in possession of a firearm, posing a potential threat to public safety.
A search conducted in the suspect’s room led to the retrieval of quantities of United States dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations, suspected to be counterfeit.
Police also recovered a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight rounds of 9mm blank ammunition.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the source and authenticity of the currency, as well as the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other recovered items.
