President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a five-member committee to oversee the implementation of the GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund, aimed at supporting infrastructure and other development priorities in Bawku and surrounding districts.
The committee, inaugurated at the Presidency on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, is chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
Other members are Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga; the Chief of Tempane, His Royal Majesty Cletus Abugri; Upper East Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga; and Member of Parliament for Garu, Dr Thomas Winsum Anabah.

According to President Mahama, funding for the revitalisation initiative has been secured, paving the way for the implementation of projects following significant improvements in the security situation in Bawku.
The President said the fund was established after government received the report of the Otumfuo Mediation Committee in December 2025, which renewed efforts towards restoring peace and development in the area.
He noted that the prolonged conflict in Bawku had disrupted public services and stalled several major development projects.
Among the affected projects is the Tamli Dam project, which was put on hold as a result of the prolonged instability in the area.
With relative peace returning to Bawku, President Mahama said government was now positioned to revive stalled projects and accelerate development in the area.
He said the revitalisation programme would help ensure that Bawku and surrounding districts receive their fair share of national development.
The committee is expected to oversee the implementation of the fund and help ensure that resources are directed towards priority infrastructure and development needs in the area.
