The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyemang, is urging Ghanaians to take advantage of the many opportunities in the tourism industry.

Speaking at the Graphic Business /Stanbic Bank Breakfast Meeting, on the theme “Tourism, The Golden Egg, A Shared Responsibility”, he stressed that Ghana's central location gives it flight access to many locations, making it a convenient destination for visitors.

The CEO stressed the need for all Ghanaians to take advantage of the country's potential as a top tourism destination.

“Access is critical to tourism growth. We have almost 37 or so airlines flying into the country. Some daily flights and so people wanting to visit. It is not that difficult. So that is an advantage over countries which do not have the same level of access that we have”.

The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority stated that in terms of cultural tourism, Ghana is one of the best destinations in the world. He emphasized that cultural tourism can drive both domestic and international arrivals, as it allows visitors to experience the unique culture and heritage of Ghana.

Mr Agyemang mentioned that cultural tourism can promote the preservation of Ghana's cultural heritage and peaceful co-existence between people from different backgrounds.

“There are so many festivals and these are things that derive both domestic and international arrivals into our country. You are talking about heritage and history. Ghana is probably the only destination that can count about 75% of the forts and castle,” he added.

The government of Ghana in the past years, has put together measures to make Ghana a preferred destination for tourists across the world.

The Beyond the Return initiative, through its December in GH activities, drives a lot of tourists into the country every year.

As part of the effort to make Ghana the biggest tourism destination in Africa, the government says it is working towards attracting two million international arrivals that will result in a $4 billion spending impact by 2025.

Shoring up the strategies to make the set objectives more achievable, the Ministry of Tourism is also seeking to work on the slave routes experience, crab villages, museums, among others.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyeman, to improve nightlife in Accra, the Authority is also rolling out interventions like the Kwame Nkrumah Park, Nationalism Park, and the Geese Park.
