Dr. Tony Aubyn, Corporate Affairs Manager of Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL), on Friday inspected rehabilitation works on the Western Regional Press Centre of the Ghana Journalists Association (G.J.A) at Takoradi.
He commended the regional executives of the G.J.A for their vision and pledged that GGL would support the association to enable it achieve its objectives.
Dr. Aubyn said information flow between the general public and the media would be greatly enhanced if work on the press centre was complete and appealed to the general public to support the media.
He called on journalists in the region to work as a team to enable them to effectively play their watchdog role to move the society forward adding "Since the best comes from the West, make sure that your press centre and your performances are the best."
Mr. George Amihere Naykene, Western Regional Chairman of the GJA, said the executives and members of the branch announced that the press centre would be commissioned on May 3, to coincide with the 2007 World Press Freedom Day celebrations.
He urged members of the GJA to abide by the code of ethics of journalism and to respect the individual's rights.
Mr. Naykene also asked journalists to focus on the plight of the vulnerable, marginalised and weak in society in their reportage.
He thanked Dr. Aubyn for showing interest in the press centre and the Western Regional Coordinating Council for releasing the offices to the G.J.A.
Mr. Naykene, appealed to individuals and organisations to assist the G.J.A to enable it achieve its vision of educating, entertaining and informing the people.
