Going forward, the NPP is determined to stay on the issues in order to fulfill its mandate as a constitutional minority in government. The key job of the Minority NPP in Parliament is to ask questions that would ensure transparency and prudence in the management of Ghana’s natural and financial resources.
Interestingly, the Government is very quick to cite what the NPP did as an excuse for non performance. An emerging tactic is also to threaten to go to court. In that context, what are the standards of governance that the NDC upholds and will accept to be measured by? Does the NDC determine their own level of accountability or do the people of Ghana have a duty to hold them to account? A core issue of public accountability is the question of how much Government is spending on the personal comfort of its appointees whilst the people have a rough ride.
First, seized cars and government policy on vehicle acquisition and use generally; will Government respond to allegations emanating from its own ranks relating to allocation, appropriation and sale of seized cars? What has happened to the vehicles seized in Rambo style from members of the previous administration? Can Government tell Ghanaians how many luxury 4-wheel drives and high end vehicles have been acquired by Government in the past two years for who and at what cost to the tax payer?
Second, how is Government paying itself? Controversies on the implementation of the single spine salary structure remain yet we are uninformed about the basis for paying top political appointees after the brouhaha about the acceptability of the Article 71 recommendations.
Third, how are we actually faring in the oil sector? Is gas being flared wastefully when the country is experiencing acute LPG gas shortages for domestic and commercial use? What about allegations that H.E the President of the Republic is torn between two factions lobbying for control to establish gas infrastructure? (Civil Society Platform for Oil and Gas)
