The Attorney General Martin Amidu has filed a motion in court challenging the payment of a judgement debt to an NDC financier Alfred Woyome.
In a new twist to the controversial payment, the AG held that the NDC financier has no legitimate contract to seek for reparation.
Woyome has been paid $58 million in 2010-2011 for alleged breach of contract by the erstwhile New Patriotic Party government during preparation towards the CAN 2008 Nations Cup.
The payment has kept government functionaries, opposition members, journalists all talking with some in defence of the payment and others vehemently against it.
On Monday, the AG returned to court asking the trial judge to adjourn the case saying he has filed an amendment to his earlier writ and claims and pleaded for more time to study the case.
Counsel for Alfred Woyome pleaded with the court to award cost in their favour but the judge overruled their request.
Joy News editor Sampson Lardy Ayenini who spoke to Martin Amidu shortly after the adjournment, reported the AG as saying there are “fundamental constitutional issues” his outfit has discovered which makes the payments to Woyome suspect.
For instance, he said Parliament was not in the know of any such contract with Woyome and his company, particularly because it was an international financial agreement and parliament ought to have been informed.
The case is due for hearing on February 14, 2012.
