A lady who attempted to register twice with the Electoral Commission has been arrested at the Nurses Training School Registration Centre.
This was disclosed by the Registration Officer of the centre, Ms Martina Wilkinson, when the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Ahmed Baba-Jamal, toured registration centres in the New Juaben Municipality on Friday.
Ms Lydia Agyiri, the New Juaben Electoral Officer, who was among the Deputy Minister's entourage, confirmed the story and said the suspect had been handed over to the police for further investigations, but did not, disclose her name.
Ms Wilkinson said the centre had so far registered 326 new voters with lots of students and some young people in the queue, at the time of the visit of Mr Baba Jamal.
Mr Baba Jamal was accompanied by the Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Paul Boateng.
They visited other registration centres including Koforidua Secondary Technical (SECTECH) Polling Station Registration Centre, which had registered 501 new voters so far.
The team also visited Adaneagya Methodist JSS Registration Centre at Oyoko, which had registered 97 voters, Effiduase Methodist JSS Registration Centre, which had registered 140 voters, and Jumapo Anglican Primary School Registration Centre, which had registered 109 voters.
At all the registration centres, there were observers from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
It was only at the Suhyen Methodist Primary School Registration Centre and the Asokore Sukuumu Methodist Primary School Registration Centres that the registration officers complained about the shortage of lamination cards and they were immediately supplied with some by Mr Boateng who had some in his vehicle.
At the end of the tour, Mr Baba-Jamal expressed his satisfaction with the process at the registration centres, and advised those who had misplaced their voters' identity cards not to re-register, but to get in touch with the electoral offices for help.
In all, the New Juaben Municipality has 48 registration centres.
