Tragedy struck at the weekend in Rijiyar Lemo, Nigeria, in the ancient city of Kano when an 11-year-old boy stabbed his mother to death.
An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, told reporters that the deceased, simply called Yaya, had been scolding her wayward child (Usman) for stealing but time without number her pleas had fallen on deaf ears.
On the fateful day, Usman reportedly came home with a sunglass, which he allegedly got from his neighbours and when her mother saw the item she queried how he came by it after which she threatened to kill him with a knife if he did not desist from stealing.
Usman did not take his mother's threats lightly as he grabbed the knife from her hand and began to stab her.
Narrating the incident , Usman's younger sister, Nafisa, who was at the scene of the incident said her brother first stabbed their mother in the hand, then her stomach and later the eye.
Another eyewitness, Saifullahi Abdulhamid, however, added that he was the first to see the late Yaya lying in a pool of her own blood.
Abdulhamid explained that they rushed her to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Kano Police Command, SP Baba Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
