About two hundred (200) National Service persons at Suhum in the Eastern Region are unable to access their allowances following the alleged suicide of Lambert Akansah, district coordinator of the scheme.

Mr Akansah is the sole signatory of the bank account of the Suhum Municipal Office of the National Service Secretariat (NSS).

The only staff who worked with him at the National Service office in Suhum has locked up the premises to escape incessant demands from the service personnel who visit there to collect their allowances.

The officer Albert Aboagye tells Joy News he is currently negotiating with the Regional Office to resolve the matter.

“Ever since he [Lambert Akansah] passed on, we have been trying to find ways and means to see how we will do our payments. Currently I’m at the regional office to see how we can find a solution to the problem.”

He said preparations were underway to pay the service personnel until the untimely passing of the coordinator.

Mr Aboagye is uncertain who will be appointed to take charge of the deceased coordinator's role but said all is being done to ensure that the service personnel are paid as soon as possible.

The Suhum Municipal Coordinator of the NSS is alleged to have committed suicide on Monday, December 29, 2014.

Mr Lambert Akansah, a 45-year-old father of four is said to have used a nylon rope to hang himself on a mango tree near his apartment at Ogome-Brigade in Somanya.

He is believed to be among the 23 district directors of the NSS who are being investigated by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and is reported to have been invited by the BNI to Accra on December 29, 2014 in connection with investigations into the alleged misappropriation of GHÈ»7.9 million belonging to the scheme.

Meanwhile police investigating the alleged suicide are expected to receive an autopsy report today.
